HOTEL PAPER

Cotton Papermaking Workshops

Hotel Paper is a participatory project that transforms discarded cotton hotel bed linen from Tinos into handmade paper, exploring new possibilities for material reuse through art.

Hotel Paper invites residents and visitors to take part in a series of open educational workshops experimenting on how a familiar waste material can begin a new life. During each workshop, participants will discover how used cotton hotel linen is collected, prepared and transformed into pulp. They will then use a traditional mould and deckle to make their own sheet of handmade cotton paper and learn how to easily replicate this process at home to make paper out. of all sorts of waste materials.

About the Project

Hotel Paper is a participatory art and material research project developed by Otonom on the island of Tinos.

The project collects damaged and unwanted cotton linen from local hotels and experiments with the material to transform it into handmade paper. The material becomes a way of examining hospitality through something usually kept out of sight: the sheets, resources, labour and waste that support the industry.

By bringing hotels, artists, residents and visitors into the same material cycle, Hotel Paper creates space to think collectively about consumption, reuse and environmental responsibility on islands shaped by seasonal tourism.

Hotel Paper Exhibition

The handmade paper produced through the project will also be given to invited artists, who will create new works responding to tourism, hospitality and the seasonality of island life.

Works by the participating artists, together with material from the workshops and production process, will be presented in a public exhibition in Tinos in September 2026.

Contributing Hotels

The first Hotel Paper experiments were made possible through linen collected from Elayio Houses, Pnoes, Odera Tinos and Pansion Flora, alongside further participating hotels across Tinos.
